Cash In On Farms Being In Favour, Urges

Bookings and revenue for farm campsites listed on have shot up by over 30 per cent year-on-year, highlighting the importance of intelligent marketing and demonstrating the revenue potential of diversifying into ‘farm tourism’.

For those new to welcoming campers, it’s reassuring to know you don’t have to offer all the bells and whistles that can push up set-up costs: there are still seven times more searches on Google UK for "camping" compared to "glamping" (see Google Trends).

In the last year*, campsites with ‘farm’ in their name attracted 33% more bookings on leading outdoor accommodation specialist Top farm sites take over 1,000 bookings a year, with the average booking worth £67; the top working farm earnt over £90,000 from accommodation bookings in the last year. The revenue potential of hosting campers on your farm is clear!

Whilst all guests expect a clean and safe place to stay, high on the wish list of those searching for farm stays are electric hook-ups, sites where dogs are allowed, and showers. Elements unique to farms such as spending time with animals or collecting eggs for breakfast should be highlighted to maximise your appeal. It’s also worth considering allowing campfires, providing on-site barbecues or being ‘adult only’ - all of these features can help drive even more bookings.

Toilets and showers are the most commented-on amenities - from cleanliness to having enough space to dress without getting their clothing wet. Given many guests book based on previous reviews, it’s advisable to invest in high-quality, well-maintained facilities and reap the rewards of a high review score.

For those keen to welcome guests to their farm campsite, well-established or new, in 2019 it’s clear: offer the basics, add some affordable extras, ensure the authentic nature of the setting is reflected in the name – and prepare for success!
