A Yorkshire-based beef farmer has installed a money-saving solar system to power his farm, thanks to the support of a Leeds-based Off grid energy firm.
Farmer, David Brown, approached Xerogrid after having been quoted £68,000 to have his farm buildings, office and new build house connected to the national electricity grid.
Based just eight miles from the centre of York, and despite support from the National Farmers Union to understand the demands of the National Grid, David’s original quote didn’t cover digging the 500 m trench required from the sub-station himself.
Having been recommended to Xerogrid by a friend, the local firm was able to save David more than £40,000.
Installing an Outback Power 6KW inverter / charger system, solar power and batteries, David’s farm is now backed up by his unique tractor driven generator and he has already seen substantial savings. His fuel bill will be reduced by 80% as well as no monthly bills from the grid.
David Brown comments:
“My friends thought I was mad, and that solar power like this didn’t work in the UK. Look who’s laughing now!”
Ian Emberton, founder and managing director of Xerogrid adds:
“We’re passionate about providing farmers an instantly cost effective, reliable off-grid systems to create their own electricity.
Many of our clients had similar costly quotes to connect to the grid, or connect more remote buildings to an existing supply. David still uses his three-phase generator for welding and two large machines, we plan to expand and convert what he has to three phase in the future to help him save even more and continue to run his important farming business.”
Xerogrid are a Leeds-based firm specialising in off-grid solutions across the UK and Spain, and even boast the largest private solar installation in Ghana.
Xerogrid are official distributors for Outback power, a market leader in off grid technology.
Xerogrid will be exhibiting at stand 1270 this year.
