GLAMPING INDUSTRY CONTINUES TO BOOM

The number of people opting for glamorous camping holidays in the UK has continued to rise year-on-year. The Cool Camping website reported a 50 percent rise in glamping bookings for the first three months of this year, compared with the same period of 2017. Another UK campsite and holiday park booking website, Pitchup, also saw “dramatic increases” in its glamping bookings when comparing 2017 with 2016 figures.

Dan Yates, founder of Pitchup says: “The sector is likely to benefit from Brexit more than other sectors of the tourism industry, as we appeal to savvy, budget-conscious travellers who are looking for ways to make their holiday spend go further. The weakness of the pound has also driven inbound bookings.

The Glamping boom has paved the way for a new standard of high-end, architect-designed accommodation; creations that are sustainable and invoke an appreciation of nature. For instance, from this summer glampers will be able to stay in safari-style lodges within a former slate mine in Snowdonia. The isolated location offers a different sort of luxury as it sits under some of Britain’s starriest skies. Many glamping sites now incorporate activities like stargazing and tree climbing to their experience offering, designed to get us engaging with the natural world.

Managing director of Glamping website Canopy & Stars Tom Dixon said, “the concept of staying and being somewhere beautiful will always be popular and we believe that in modern life it has never been more important”. Experts believe that as long as access to a patch of wilderness sets our cabins or treehouses apart from a hotel, we will carry on glamping.

With UK staycations on the rise, the number of land-owners diversifying into agri-tourism is following suit, and farmers are continuing to flourish in the ever-growing Glamping sector.
